Horseheads, NY - Mid-autumn day/Moon festival is one of the most important holidays celebrated in eastern Asian countries. The festival is originated based on the legend of Chang’e, a goodness and master of the moon. The myths associated with Chang'e explain the origin of moon worship during this day. To memorize Chang’e, people get together with family members for dinner and moon cake tasting. Meanwhile, the mid-autumn day is also a celebration of harvest for Chinese farmers.

In Corning, we celebrated this year’s Moon Festival at the Harris Hill Youth Camp on September 19th. The CCA welcomed more than 200 CCA members and friends in the events. It began with greetings from CCA president Lin Lin, followed by honoring our dedicated teachers from the Corning Chinese School, who made significant contributions in spreading Chinese language and culture to younger generations during the past year. A few new CCA members also made a brief self-introduction and were welcomed to the CCA family.

Authentic Chinese food is always the key component of the party. The CCA prepared Chinese food from local Chinese restaurants as well as local families for our member to enjoy. Lucky members also get boxes of moon cakes as lottery gifts. Additionally, the event was celebrated with lantern word puzzles.
